I think it’s this “share the value, joy and peace of living as a Christian; that being a Christian is the very best way to live.”
Do we live exceptionally? The US changed from one where all the good people went to church to one where only the minority does and are either tolerated or looked down on for doing it. Why? Well I would say that beyond political agendas and the work of the enemy, on the individual level are Christians that much different? If someone was in fact experiencing the joy, peace, community, love then those that know that person will be faced with something that they can’t dismiss. That opens the door to talk about God and to make disciples. A stranger that they don’t know claiming it does helps a little, but not nearly as much. I’ve had some success with telling strangers, but those were few and that was decades ago.
So I look at Christian surveys and a lot of times I don’t see much difference between Christians and not. I look at a lot of other Christian’s lives that I know personally and see some differences sometimes, but nothing overwhelming when compared to other people in the same demographic. So I’m not surprised that people don’t come into the church as often. They see people that aren’t much different from them living in a foreign Christian subculture with the most different thing in their life being their location on Sunday morning.
So I would start with walking with God to a level where the value, joy, peace, love, community is actually seen in the way we live our lives and our value systems. Are we really disciples of the Living God ourselves, or just another tribe of people trying to make our tribe bigger and more powerful? That’s where I would start.
